Gothenburg, Sweden, May 21st 2008 - KPMG, one of the world’s largest global networks of professional firm providing Audit, Tax and Advisory
services has confirmed its support and endorsement for Afriversity with the mission to train and support aspiring African entrepreneurs.
KPMG will sponsor Afriversity with global advice and expertise to develop an effective foundation financed by socially responsible corporations and private
donors.
Afriversity is a non-profit organization founded in Sweden in 2008 with a mission to create a new breed of world class, socially responsible, global
entrepreneurs that will help Africa prosper in the new millennium. It has been established with the aim of creating practically skilled entrepreneurs through
education, incubation, funding, networking, idea exchange, fellowships, and advocacy among the African people.
Afriversity is different from traditional theoretical business schools in that it strives to promote a very hands-on entrepreneurial training designed for African
business conditions, with a high degree of cross-cultural skills. The concept also builds on an effective networking of aspiring entrepreneurs, socially responsible
venture capitalists and micro-finance organizations both in Africa and in developed countries.
The Nordic Africa Institute also endorses Afriversity. NAI is a Nordic government sponsored research, documentation and information centre on modern Africa for
the Nordic countries, located in Uppsala, Sweden. NAI has stated its support of Afriversity though its extensive connections with existing business networks,
commerce chambers, universities and NGOs in Africa.
"We are very excited about these early partnerships at the start-up phase of Afriversity. We are currently actively seeking sponsors, donors and value-added
partners to accelerate the initiative and run the first courses in 2009. Our key objectives are to motivate, educate, inspire and support entrepreneurs in Africa to
build sustainable businesses that will eventually generate jobs and long-term prosperity. Afriversity was born out of the idea to contribute to Africa’s development
with a lasting effect, and leverage the enormous resources and diversity of the African people and the continent as a whole," says Thorgeir Einarsson,
the Founder & CEO of Afriversity. "The concept of hands-on entrepreneurialism coupled with incubation is one very close to our hearts, as we are helping
others to start their own businesses, just as we did ourselves. With the assistance from organizations such as KPMG, NAI and future sponsors from the corporate and
private sectors, we can help make those dreams become a reality".
