Training Program

Training & Mentoring Programs

Afriversity has been running business training and mentoring courses successfully since 2009, out of its base in Cape Town South Africa, graduating some 200+ Afripreneurs.
In 2011, we are transforming our courses to become available via Afriversity.org along with video and podcasts, so that we can spread knowledge, experiences, wisdom, hints and tips across all of Africa! In other words, we will be offering e-learning to scale our efforts to reach as many Afripreneurs as possible on their laptops and smart phones.
We also make our mentors available on-line with full profiles, video and biographies for Afripreneurs to to search and connect via Skype video/voice, chat and email, and vice versa.
The benefit of using e-learning is that content can be revisited over and over again, it can be shared, and we can gain feedback from our members on grading content and contribute own content. We believe that this approach will boost learning and become a more effective networked way to help our members to stay up to speed with the latest developments in business and start-up management.
Afriversity will grow gradually with its contributing members and the plan is to welcome a mix of trainers, guest lecturers and other contributors from business and academic institutions across the world.  We expect to start offering video and podcast courses during 2011, and also see members start offering their own video content and create user generated content (UGC) in a wiki-style right off the bat!

So in addition to Afriversity’s own content generation, we welcome contributions from all our members, sharing your own experiences for becoming a more effective and smarter entrepreneur. We expect our members to not just share experiences, but also make contact with each other.  Just as we have seen in the physical courses we have run so successfully in the past, there is a tremendous power in connecting with likeminded entrepreneurs to learn in groups.

So what do we offer?

The courses and content we offer on Afriversity.org will develop over time and include the following:

Business Booster

This is a series of short courses (Video and podcasts) covering core business skills, conceptual frameworks and practical tools necessary to build and run a business. This covers areas of strategy, marketing, communication, sales, production/operation, organizational design and finance.
After consuming these courses, Afripreneurs will be able to understand how to develop business models, assess business ideas, design go-to-market plans, and ultimately learn the key components to be communicated through a business plan to gain financing and lift-off!

Personal skills and confidence booster

We believe that a critical component of any entrepreneur is to be able to communicate, negotiate, sell, lead teams and manage personal time effectively.  Mastering these skills helps your confidence in sharp situations when you need to close that big deal, manage staff and being a great communicator.
We will be offering short and effective courses to cover personal disciplines such as leadership, time management, presentation skills, sales and negotiation skills.

Mentoring as continuous learning and support

Afriversity sets out to help Afripreneurs to find not just a mentor, but the right mentor! What we mean by this is a mentor that fits both your style, chemistry and has specific experience in your industry, be it IT, food, retail, services or manufacturing.
We have a set of recommended mentors that have helped many of our Afripreneurs both practically building their business ventures, or simply as a sounding board when times are tough and you need an experienced business person to lean on.
Through Afriversity’s social network, we invite mentors to become members and list their profiles and skills. Afripreneurs can search for the right match, and find mentors across the globe that can help! Mentors and Afripreneurs agree their own commercial terms without any involvement from Afriversity. We simply act as a meeting place.
