Good day Thogeir and everyone else reading this. I am not sure how to go about telling my story cause sometimes things in life can pass you by very quickly. What I can tell everyone is this...

I have a passion for computers and anything technological since highschool and after matric I pursude studies to further this passion of mine. Like i have grown to believe that when you use one talent, more automatically follow. Well I am a technician for more than ten years but there is only so much a person can learn from the insides of computers and soon became hungry to explore wot software can do.

Lucky for me I have a knack to learn quickly when things make sense. So I got into the Microsoft office packages and started to tutor people in our community. At the time I had no formal training of the software. I pursued that training a year later in 1999.

i worked for many places from admin to technical work to management but all in all I can say that I enjoyed the technical work more. I do suppose that some people are born to be managers and some are born to become workers. I do work better but always want to commit myself to a project that has a good manager.

Over the past six years I have found myself becoming fond of Adobe Products esp Photoshop and InDeisgn. I have experience with music making packages such as Reason and Ableton and understand the workflows of alot of music making programs. I am also an avid photographer - sometimes when events call upon it I can rely on alot of strengths and knowledge that I have attained from books, people I interact with and also experiences along the way.

in last year, with the bare minimum of training and help from a good friend, I designed and implemented the Departmental website. I discovered that my knowledge of photoshop and my love for just designing websites all came together. I do intend in time to join a team of web designing enthusiasts to learn and become better - because when I become better I can become a better teacher.

My aim for joining this site is to network and possibly if I need to travel to attend proper workshops on webdesigning especially with joomla I would really intend to do that. At the moment I help churches with letterhead designs and whatever they need to be designed. I have aided a local playwrite in making a poster for his first production. There are so many people I aid in one week that I often have to study tutorials late at night.

2012 is the year i see me spreading my wings and experiencing design and helping people like never before. I am sure that at Afriversity I can be assured this would happen.

Thank you to all

Thanks for this Thorgeir - This material is existing, tried, tested and proven. Was training that I was using for entry level staff who were applying for positions within the Airline Industry. Have also given this training to College Graduates for a very reputable Business in SA, as well as for NPO under a separate format. Material as such has been used by Damelin in Roodepoort, under agreement from myself, as part of their HR Management Training Programme. If I had to estimate how many people I have delivered this material to, it would be about 500+ at this stage.

Having been in business start up scenario previously, I know what it takes to start and run a business - one of the training courses that I am actually able to give and do skills transfer with, would be exactly on how to generate a successful Business Plan.

I paid a visit to the Crowdfunding site and notice that it is not up and running properly as yet, or pulling through correctly from this side?

Perfectionism is one of my weaknesses unfortunately! I tend to want everything to be exactly that, prior to running with something. You are possibly correct with this estimation. This material was designed specifically to address and redress the unemployment issues and plight within the South African economy. It was designed on the back of 12+ years within the Recruitment industry and meeting graduates who had wasted time, effort, energy and resources by chosing the incorrect field of study, purely on the basis that they had not received the correct introduction to various study options and exactly what they can and cannot do with the qualification. The figure is a staggering 96% of all graduates who had changed field of studies in year 1 or later!

In SA at present, the unemployment figures are sitting at around 54%, despite what people are being told - these figures are as quoted by Business Unity SA a couple of months ago and this is going to increase as we move closer to Christmas and businesses make the hard decision of whether they are going to remain open or not!

Huge dilemma!

Hi Angela! A part from finding a business angel, that also has some experience in the area of "training", I know that SEDA provides support. Frans has experience in this field and we at Afriversity have also received financial support in the past. BTW: My general advise when it comes to start up is too avoid being too much a perfectionist, and get a first version of your business (and business plan done first), then try it out in the real world. See what works and what doesn't-. That goes for getting investment as well as for providing a service. If your business is to help provide support and training for disadvantaged people, then I would also suggest Crowdfunding ( www.civilisedmoney.co.uk) - see also more information about that under Funding Discussion group.
Happy trails!

I am currently looking for seed funding of about R250K for my Training business - does anyone have any idea of where I would be able to find this?

Material is now virtually a go (eventually) as I am a perfectionist, which means that this is a very painful process. Need to connect with business professionals in need of soft skills training within their business and / or educational / recruitment entities that require training to redress the high unemployment rate in South Africa at the moment...

Hi Angela! Thanks for being the first to share your story here on this new discussion group!
Please feel free to expand on your business plan, what your vision, mission and purpose are, and what you are looking for in terms of money, partners, connections etc.

Here at Afriversity, we have not yet formalised too much how you present your business plan, but rather leaving it for each member to have free format, e.g point to links etc on the web that explains your business. Our plan for the future is to create some templates for this, and allow for investors (individuals and VCs) to contact each entrepreneur and make things happen. We also have big hopes for Crowdfunding as a fast and simple way to not just invest but to lend/borrow money. More on this to come as we develop our services and partnerships.

Looking forward to other stories to inspire others, and ultimately make things happen for you all!

My story is simple - 40+ Mother of 6 children who was NOT given all of the wonderful opportunities of being able to attend the best private schools or universities, due to circumstance. This however, has not prevented me from always striving to achieve in each area of my life.

I am fueled by my passion for people and would like to make a difference in people's lives by empowering them to make the correct choices in life and in short, thereby being able to chart their own course and create their own destiny. I am a firm believer in the mantra that if you find what you are passionate about, you will never work a day in your life, as well as paying it forward at all times.

I would really like to connect with like minded individuals who are possibly able to point me in the right direction in finding an investor, who is just as passionate about the development of people and who will have the shared vision of creating a better society in South Africa, irrespective of the colour of a person's skin, their background etc. Each of us are able to truly touch a life and make a difference.

This is a small part of my story....what's yours?
