Entrepreneurial Training + Incubation = Success

Afriversity aims at providing not only world class entrepreneurial training courses, but also hands-on help for new innovative African businesses to help them grow and develop. This concept is often referred to as “incubation”. Incubation is proven in many other parts of the world and provides the inexperienced entrepreneur with access to practical business support during the fledgling start up years.

Starting a new business or growing an existing small company is fraught uncertainty and issues surrounding financing, hiring, product development, logistics, contracts and many other challenges.

Afriversity, through its partners both inside and outside Africa, offers access to experts in business development, finance, product development, sales & marketing and all other aspects of growing a business successfully.

Afriversity Incubation services are aimed at removing some of the hurdles and help mentor aspiring business leaders as well as provide practical contacts and advice.

The goal of Afriversity Incubators is to increase the probability that an African start-up will succeed, shorten the time, and reduce the cost of establishing and growing a new business. The combination of successful incubation with practical management training will nurture companies that will ultimately create future wealth and new jobs in Africa.

Afriversity aims to:
  • Create opportunities for entrepreneurs in Africa to launch and grow profitable businesses that benefit the local communities by providing the necessary tools and support for global enterprise creation
  • Promote a culture of social and economic development by creating entrepreneurial role models, raising expectations and expanding access to real opportunities
  • Inspire graduate students and professional volunteers in developing countries and direct their energy and skills to become aspiring world entrepreneurs
  • Increase private investments in emerging markets by demonstrating that small producers can compete successfully in local and global markets
  • Provide business incubation services for innovative and fast growing African companies
  • Replicate the model throughout all of the African nations

Where the incubator is and how we operate

Afriversity aims at developing both stand-alone business incubators in selected locations in Africa in cooperation with the local chambers of commerce and universities. These will be based in science or business parks, within a university campus or at a private sector large corporate - basically anywhere where there is a demand for intensive business support.

The typical Afriversity Incubation scenario

Imagine the following scenario:
You have developed a product, service or maybe even an innovation. You know that there is a market for it, and maybe you already have your first paying customers. The question now is how do you bring it to the bigger markets, including overseas exports, whilst also protecting your business from competition, legal hassles and all the other complexities of expansion? This is where Afriversity business incubation comes in!

We will have access to the specialists that you probably couldn’t afford who will figure out the best financing and access to experts in the field who can help to market the product or service. We can help with overseas partners to help you establish in international markets and even linkages into major corporates who can either help you to develop it further or who may want to license it from you.

Alongside this, the incubator will help to grow you as an entrepreneur through the hands-on Afriversity training program including customised workshops, support in book-keeping and management accounting, assisting with the dreaded tax legislation.

How long do I use an incubator?

There is no set length of time and it all depends on the particular business nature and the need for support, but typically it can be anything between 6 months and 3 years.

The incubation approach is flexible to meet the needs of each entrepreneur. The combination of incubation with the Afriversity entrepreneurial training is the key to your success in growing your businesses.
